Sixth Belt and Road Initiative Short Video Competition Awards Ceremony Held

The Sixth Belt and Road Initiative Short Video Competition Awards Ceremony and Creator Conference concluded in Beijing on November 22, 2024. Sponsored by the China Public Diplomacy Association, the event received support from several organizations, including the News Center of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council, the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia, the Cambodian Embassy in China, and the Consulate-General of China in Auckland. Co-organized by the Office of the Cyberspace Affairs Commission of CPC Ningbo Municipal Committee, Office of the Cyberspace Affairs Commission of CPC Wuxi Municipal Committee, Foreign Affairs Office of Wuxi Municipal People’s Government, Publicity Department of the CPC Wuxi Xishan District Committee, Cultural Exchange Network of Cambodia and China, Ningbo University, and Center for Cambodian Studies of Beijing Foreign Studies University, the event was themed “Embrace the New, Together for Prosperity.” China Huadian Corporation Limited also provided support.

Ten awards were presented, recognizing achievements in areas such as cultural integration, environmental practices, BRI collaboration, Gen Z perspectives, popularity, technological innovation, AI-driven creation, international participation, overall excellence, and outstanding organization. Winning entries showcased diverse cultures, histories, and customs, highlighting cooperation and people-to-people connections fostered by the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

Attendees included Tong Xiaoling (Ambassador, China Public Diplomacy Association); Zhang Yihao (Deputy Director, News Center of SASAC); NHEK Soparama (Minister Counsellor, Royal Embassy of Cambodia in China); Shan Chengbiao (General Manager, Global Times Online); Shi Ding (Executive Editor-in-chief, Global Times Online); Yi Jianwei (Director, CHD Brand and Publicity Center, and head of CHD Media Company); Gu Jiayun (Director, Center for Cambodian Studies at Beijing Foreign Studies University); and Liu Zhen (Vice President, Kuaishou Technology).

In her address, Ambassador Tong highlighted the BRI’s second golden decade and emphasized the importance of sharing BRI stories to foster international understanding and appreciation of China’s development approach, benefiting both BRI builders and participants.

She commended the competition’s role in showcasing BRI achievements and promoting cultural exchange.

Chen Cong (Minister Counsellor, Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Cambodia) delivered a congratulatory video message, noting the enthusiastic response to the Cambodian division of the competition, with nearly 50 organizations submitting over 150 entries illustrating strong Sino-Cambodian relations and facilitating people-to-people exchanges.

Soparama noted the 66th anniversary of Cambodian-Chinese diplomatic relations and the Year of Cultural Exchange between the two countries, highlighting successful joint cultural events promoting understanding and tourism.

She expressed confidence that the competition would strengthen mutual understanding and friendship between Cambodia, China, and other BRI partner countries through short videos.

Consul General Chen Shijie (Chinese Consulate General in Auckland) offered congratulations via video, emphasizing New Zealand’s successful BRI cooperation with China in economic, trade, and cultural spheres.

He encouraged New Zealand content creators to document China-New Zealand cooperation, furthering bilateral friendship.

Shan emphasized Global Times Online’s continued support for the competition, promoting outstanding works globally, upholding principles of openness, inclusivity, and cooperation.

The subsequent creator conference featured symposiums on “BRI-inspired Opportunities for Cultural Integration and Innovation” and “Technology and Global Narratives in Short Video Creation,” exploring the use of short videos for cultural exchange and sharing experiences in technology-enabled short video production.
