Revamped “Song of Everlasting Sorrow” Show Drives North China Winter Tourism “`

XI’AN, China, Dec. 06, 2024 — A spectacular live historical drama, “The Song of Everlasting Sorrow,” debuted on December 1st at the Huaqing Palace scenic spot in Xi’an. This large-scale production blends ice, snow, fire, light, shadow, and music against the stunning backdrop of Lishan Mountain.

An upgraded version of a previous show, the “ice-fire” drama boasts innovative stage design, choreography, and technological advancements, resulting in a fresh artistic interpretation.

The performance has successfully transformed Xi’an’s winter tourism season, offering a unique and compelling attraction and pioneering outdoor winter shows in North China.

Based on Bai Juyi’s Tang Dynasty poem, the dance drama depicts the love story of Emperor Xuanzong and Yang Guifei, bringing the poem’s moving narrative to life.

Showcasing the splendor of the Tang Dynasty, a significant era in Chinese history with widespread cultural influence, the 70-minute performance masterfully combines historical narrative, stagecraft, and visual effects.

Since its 2006 premiere, the drama has had over 5,300 performances, attracting approximately 10 million viewers.

Through continuous innovation and exploration, the production remains consistently relevant and engaging.

This year’s production includes Central Asian actors, reflecting the Tang Dynasty’s openness, inclusiveness, and multiculturalism, thereby enriching its artistic expression and global appeal.
