Jiangsu Province Sees Surge in Fitness Activities Inspired by Olympics

NANJING, China, Aug. 14, 2024 —

China celebrates National Fitness Day annually on August 8th, which coincides with the “Sports Promotion Week” as mandated by the Sports Law. This year, the excitement of the Paris Olympics has merged with National Fitness Day, igniting a province-wide fitness craze in Jiangsu. The province is hosting over 300 fitness events, ranging from village basketball leagues to soccer matches, square dancing, swimming, fishing, aerobics, tai chi, night runs, and national fitness assessments and sports carnivals. These events cater to all ages, fitness levels, and times of day. Jiangsu Province has witnessed a significant surge in sports enthusiasts who are transitioning from spectators to active participants. The Jiangsu Provincial Sports Bureau reports that the province currently boasts 355,700 sports venues, covering a total area of 3.69 billion square meters, averaging 4.32 square meters per person, the highest in China.
