GUIYANG, China, Sept. 03, 2024 — Agriculture has become a key area of collaboration between Guizhou Province in southwest China and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR).

A series of promotional activities, organized by the Guizhou Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the Guizhou Department of Commerce, took place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in August.

This marked the eighth year of Guizhou’s participation in the Hong Kong Food Trade Expo and Hong Kong International Tea Fair, aiming to further expand its international market with the support of the Hong Kong SAR.

The organizers invited 32 agricultural enterprises from Guizhou to showcase their products and promote their brands at the event.

Guizhou boasts a favorable ecological environment and has developed a range of nutritious and clean green agricultural products, including matcha, coix seed, and gastrodia elata.

Leveraging its resource advantages, Guizhou has cultivated eight prominent agriculture industrial clusters in chili peppers, edible fungi, beef, Chinese medicinal herbs, green tea, and broiler chicken.

Currently, the total cultivated areas of tea leaves, chili peppers, and Roxburgh roses stand at a stable 7 million mu (approximately 466,667 hectares), 5 million mu, and 2.1 million mu respectively, ranking among the top nationwide.

In 2023, matcha sales in Jiangkou County exceeded 1,000 tonnes, generating a total output value of 200 million yuan (approximately 28.2 million U.S. dollars).
