BEIJING, Dec. 16, 2024 — The documentary “Your Voice,” showcasing Beijing’s rapid response system for public complaints, will premiere on December 17, 2024, ahead of the 2024 Beijing Forum on the same topic. The film will be publicly released in 2025.
Using Beijing’s “Swift Response to Public Complaints” system as a case study, “Your Voice” explores citizen-centric governance in a megacity, employing both international and humanistic perspectives to highlight the value of prioritizing citizens’ needs and improving their lives.
Beginning with common megacity governance challenges globally, the documentary uses calls to the 12345 Beijing Citizen Hotline as a narrative thread. It recounts Beijing’s reform efforts through the experiences of ordinary citizens, conveying China’s approach to the international community. Through compelling visuals and real-life stories, it demonstrates how this hotline drives megacity governance reform, highlighting the underlying wisdom and citizen-centric philosophy of the “Swift Response” system.
The film’s production involved visits to over 40 units across nine Beijing districts and interviews with more than 100 staff members. The ten-month production process culminated in the completed documentary.
The theme song, “The Answer,” was composed by the Dong Dongdong team (creators of “Where Has the Time Gone”) and performed by Wang Zhengliang.
Sponsored by the Organizing Committee of the 2024 Beijing Forum on “Swift Response to Public Complaints,” and produced by the Central Newsreel and Documentary Film Studio (Group), the documentary is a joint effort of the Organization Department and the Publicity Department of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, and the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Government Affair Services and Data Administration.
