Trump Announces India and Pakistan Agree to ‘Full and Immediate’ Cease-Fire

Following increased conflict and mutual accusations of strikes, India and Pakistan have reportedly agreed to a cease-fire after discussions facilitated by the U.S.

President Donald Trump made the announcement Saturday morning on Truth Social. “After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE,” he stated. “Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed the agreement shortly after, in a post on X (formerly Twitter). He stated: “Pakistan and India have agreed to a cease-fire with immediate effect. Pakistan has always strived for peace and security in the region, without compromising on its sovereignty and territorial integrity!”

The cease-fire news comes after ongoing accusations between India and Pakistan regarding overnight strikes into Saturday, raising international concerns about a potential full-scale war. Recent years have seen a resurgence of tensions, particularly escalating after an April 22 incident resulting in fatalities. The Kashmir region has historically been a point of contention, with both countries controlling parts but claiming the entirety. India alleged Pakistani support for the April 22 attack in Kashmir, leading to retaliatory “”. Pakistan has denied any involvement in the April 22 attack.

On Saturday morning, providing more details about U.S. mediation, detailed discussions via X. “Over the past 48 hours, [Vice President J.D.] Vance and I have engaged with senior Indian and Pakistani officials, including Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Shehbaz Sharif, External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir, and National Security Advisors Ajit Doval and Asim Malik,” he wrote. “I am pleased to announce the Governments of India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate cease-fire and to start talks on a broad set of issues at a neutral site.”

Vance supported the announcement by sharing Trump’s post on his own social media.

This is a developing story.
