Musk Expresses Regret Over Some Anti-Trump Posts, Says He ‘Went Too Far’

Elon Musk looks on during a news conference with U.S. President Donald Trump in the Oval Office of the White House in Washington, D.C., on May 30, 2025.

“I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week,” Elon Musk stated on X, his social media platform, early Wednesday. “They were excessive.”

Musk and Trump, once close allies, engaged in a heated public dispute last week. However, tensions seem to be easing between the world’s wealthiest individual and the leader of a powerful military.

Musk’s expression of regret, after previously pledging to support Trump’s 2024 election, follows a perceived change in his social media stance towards the Administration.

Through retweets and replies, Musk indicated his support for Trump’s policies, including sharing several of the President’s recent posts from Truth Social.

He also responded with a heart emoji to a video of Trump telling reporters on Monday that he had a “good relationship” with Musk and wished him well.

This contrasts sharply with their interactions the previous week, when Musk criticized Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill,” a large tax and spending package facing difficulties in Congress.

“Elon and I had a great relationship. I’m not sure if we still do,” Trump told reporters at the White House on June 5. “I’m very disappointed in Elon. I’ve helped Elon a lot.” On Truth Social, Trump exclaimed about Musk and suggested that “terminating Elon’s Governmental Subsidies and Contracts” would be the “easiest way to save money.”

Musk, in turn, claimed that the Administration was suppressing the release of certain information because it implicated Trump, and he supported a message suggesting Trump’s impeachment and Vance as his replacement. Those posts have since been removed.
