Israel Launches Attack on Iran

APTOPIX Iran Mideast Wars

Early Friday, Israel launched what it described as a “preemptive” strike against Iran, without the participation of the United States.

Images and videos circulating show explosions occurring in Tehran, the Iranian capital.

According to an Israeli military source, the strikes targeted “dozens” of Iranian nuclear and military sites.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that a retaliatory attack by Iran on Israel and its civilian population “is expected in the immediate timeframe.”

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio issued a statement saying: “Tonight, Israel took unilateral action against Iran. We are not involved in strikes against Iran and our top priority is protecting American forces in the region. Israel advised us that they believe this action was necessary for its self-defense. President Trump and the Administration have taken all necessary steps to protect our forces and remain in close contact with our regional partners. Let me be clear: Iran should not target U.S. interests or personnel.”

The attack follows the start of U.S. military exercises across the Middle East a day prior, amidst increasing regional tensions and stalled negotiations between the U.S. and Iran concerning Iran’s nuclear program.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
