Iran launched its retaliatory actions against Israel on Friday, targeting military leaders, government officials, and nuclear facilities throughout the nation.
According to Israel Defense Forces spokesperson Effie Defrin, Iran has launched over 100 drones toward Israel.
Defrin stated that, “All [aerial] defense systems are active in intercepting the threats. This situation is unlike anything we’ve previously encountered, and we anticipate challenging times ahead. We must demonstrate resilience and patience.”
Reports indicate that Tel Aviv’s city government has cancelled Friday’s planned Pride parade. Additionally, Israel’s National Security Council urged Israelis abroad to “take precautions” because “terrorist elements will seek to carry out acts of revenge against Israeli and Jewish targets around the world.”
Earlier, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that Israel should anticipate an “immediate” response from Tehran following the strikes, which occurred one day after the U.S. began positioning forces across the Middle East due to concerns about potential conflict escalation. On Thursday evening, the State Department instructed embassy staff and their families in Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza to seek shelter.
Jordan announced early Friday that it would close its airspace due to the region’s “military escalation.” Iran, , and Iraq have also closed their airspaces.
