MANILA, Philippines – Ready to vote and be heard? Young Filipino Advocates of Critical Thinking (yFACTph) launches its voter registration campaign titled “Boto Mo, Bukas Natin” (Your Vote, Our Future), tapping influencers to encourage young Filipinos to register for 2022 national elections.
Social media plays an important tool for communication, particularly now that everyone is staying at home as much as possible due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
There have been a lot of people, well-known ones and ordinary folks alike who complain about the government as they seek change. Others wish to defend the current administration. A lot are even quarreling online due to these differences in political opinion!
But while social media is a great outlet for sharing your sentiments and feelings, it’s not the only place where you can make a difference. By registering as a voter, you can truly make your voice be heard by casting your vote for the leaders whom you think deserve to be the ones in the government’s seats of power.

Social media influencers and celebrities backing the calls for voter registration include Sebastian Castro, Isa Rodriguez, Luis Gragera, Cherry Pie Picache, Paolo Pangilinan, Rain Matienzo, Sassa Gurl, Kyle Vergara, among others.
During the launching, yFACTph Chairperson John Philip Bravo, shared a passionate plea about the importance of voter registration and how the outcome of an election can impact communities.
“As we approach the 2022 elections, it’s important that we reject hate speech, fake news, greed, bigotry, and online negativity. That’s why we need to take advantage of the ongoing voter registration. This is an opportunity to have our voices be heard and to make a change. And if you care about peace, equality, LGBT and women’s rights, education, press freedom and free speech, please vote,” said Bravo.
The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has so far recorded over a million new voter applications for the 2022 polls, though still short of the 4 million new voters being eyed by the agency.
To accommodate those who are not available to register during weekdays, COMELEC is set to open voter registration on Saturdays beginning February 20.
“Starting February 20, from 8:00 [a.m.] to 5:00 [p.m.] ang voter registration. May Sabado na, Tuesday to Saturday, 8:00 to 5:00, starting Feb. 20,” Commissioner Rowena Guanzon announced earlier.
Previously, voter registration was only administered from Monday to Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Voter registration will only be until September 30, 2021. Don’t wait for the deadline!
