YAN’AN, China, April 07, 2025 — A public sacrifice ceremony honoring the Yellow Emperor Xuanyuan was held at the Mausoleum of the Yellow Emperor in Shaanxi Province on the morning of April 4th, 2025 (Yisi Year) for the Qingming Festival. The mausoleum, located in Huangling County, Shaanxi, marks the burial site of the Yellow Emperor, revered as the common ancestor of the Chinese people.

The memorial ceremony commenced at 9:50 am. Attendees stood in respectful silence as drums were beaten and bells were rung. The 34 drumbeats symbolized the collective spirit of the entire Chinese nation, including overseas Chinese, in paying homage to their ancestor. The nine bell rings signified the highest level of traditional Chinese ritual etiquette, expressing the boundless respect and gratitude of the Chinese people towards the Yellow Emperor.

To the accompaniment of solemn ritual music, Zhang Qingwei, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, and He Baoxiang, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, presented floral tributes to the statue of Yellow Emperor Xuanyuan. Subsequently, Zhao Yide, Secretary of the CPC Shaanxi Provincial Party Committee and Director of the Standing Committee of the Shaanxi Provincial People’s Congress, presented a flower basket on behalf of Shaanxi Province. Zhao Gang, the Governor of Shaanxi Province, then delivered the memorial address.

Following the memorial music and dance performance, a 56-meter-long Chinese dragon emerged from the center of the altar, ascending into the sky. This dragon symbolized the deep reverence of the Chinese people for their cultural ancestor and embodied the collective aspiration for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Afterward, attendees proceeded in organized groups to offer their respects at Xuanyuan Hall before participating in tree-planting ceremonies at the Huangdi Mausoleum.

The memorial ceremony was a collaborative effort organized by the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, and the Shaanxi Provincial People’s Government.
