YIBIN, China, Sept. 03, 2024 — The 2024 World Power Battery Conference, hosted by the People’s Government of Sichuan Province and jointly organized by the People’s Government of Yibin City and Sichuan Provincial Economic and Information Department, took place in Yibin City, Sichuan Province, southwestern China on September 1-2.
The United Arab Emirates served as the guest of honor for this conference. The event featured six special meetings, two online live high-end interviews, and achievement exhibitions. The special meetings focused on advanced battery technology, new energy storage, new energy industry supply chains, power battery quality, and safe battery transportation. The exhibitions showcased new energy vehicle and power battery technologies and products, along with cutting-edge applications in electric tools, low altitude economy, humanoid robots, and electric ships.
Data released during the conference revealed that China produced and sold 9.587 million and 9.495 million new energy vehicles in 2023, representing a year-on-year increase of 35.8% and 37.9% respectively. This rapid growth in the new energy vehicle sector has spurred the rapid development of the power battery industry.
In recent years, Sichuan Province has proactively developed its power battery industry, responding to the global green and low-carbon transformation. Since its launch in Sichuan in 2022, the World Power Battery Conference, the leading event in China’s power battery sector, has been held for three consecutive years. The conference has seen the unveiling of new technologies and products, and numerous successful project implementations. These efforts have consolidated industry consensus, fostered industrial agglomeration, and supported green development.
Yibin, as the primary driver of Sichuan’s power battery industry, has attracted leading power battery companies and their upstream and downstream supporting enterprises since 2019. The city has established a green closed-loop full industry chain ecosystem for power batteries, encompassing upstream raw materials, components, power battery cells, new energy vehicles, and battery recycling and reuse. This makes Yibin one of the regions in China with the most comprehensive power battery industry chain and robust supporting cooperation capabilities.
In 2023, power battery sales in Yibin City reached 96 GWh, accounting for over 15% of China’s total, with the entire industry chain exceeding 100 billion yuan in output value. From January to July this year, the power battery industry in Yibin City generated 54.494 billion yuan in output value, signifying a 10.4% year-on-year increase in added value.
