BERLIN, Dec. 11, 2024 — The PRESERVE Project, a Horizon 2020 initiative focused on sustainable packaging, concludes with a final event alongside the European Bioplastics Conference on December 12th. This event will showcase the project’s key achievements, innovations, and a future roadmap for sustainable packaging.

Project Coordinator Dr. Aldo R. Reyes will open the event. The first session features presentations on key project outcomes: bio-based oxygen barriers (Kristina Eißenberger, Albstadt-Sigmaringen University); next-generation PHA-based food packaging (Willem Uyttendaele, Centexbel); biotechnological strategies for recycling biodegradable materials (Steven Verstichel, Normec OWS); material separation and recycling of multilayer films (Nicolò Fortunati, Planet Bioplastics); upscaling bio-based solutions (Ana Guerra, Südpack); and the sustainability and circularity of bio-based packaging (Carla Bartolomé and Matteo Maccanti, ITENE/NTT). A Q&A will follow.

A presentation of [the name of the unveiled item] by Estela López-Hermoso (EUBP), and a roundtable discussion of its significance with Teresa Calvo (Itene) and Daniele Spinelli (NTT), are also planned. Industry leaders Marc Vetterli (V-ZUG), Marc Meijers (DenimX), and Matthias Schrägle (Südpack) will discuss future directions for sustainable packaging.

Updates from related Horizon 2020 projects (UpPE-T, UPLIFT, BioRadar, and Bio4Human) highlighting collaborative progress in bio-based technologies will also be shared.

Dr. Aldo Reyes stated, “The PRESERVE Project has strived to advance sustainable packaging. This final event celebrates our accomplishments and lays the groundwork for future bio-based packaging innovations, shaping the industry’s future.”
