CHENGDU, China, June 09, 2025 — The 3rd Meishan Satellite Application Industry Development Conference commenced on June 9 in Meishan City, Sichuan Province, China. Experts from remote sensing technology, aerospace, and related sectors, along with representatives from international cooperation organizations, convened in Meishan to discuss technological innovation, coordinated industrial chain development, and international cooperation models within the satellite industry. Their insights aim to elevate Meishan’s satellite sector.
The conference was hosted by the China Association of Remote Sensing Application and the Meishan Municipal People’s Government, organized by the Meishan Management Committee of Sichuan Tianfu New Area, and co-organized by Meishan Tianfu New Area Xingchan Investment Group Co., Ltd.
During the opening ceremony, the China Association of Remote Sensing Application launched the 2025 Blue Book on China’s Remote Sensing Application Sector Development. Keynote addresses were given by Li Deren, a photogrammetry and remote sensing scientist and Wuhan University professor; Zhu Ninghua, a microwave photonics expert and director of the Institute of Intelligent Photonics at Nankai University; and Xu Ying, a Beidou navigation system scientist and researcher at the Aerospace Information Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Huantian Wisdom Technology Co., Ltd., a leading enterprise in Meishan’s satellite industry, introduced its “StarView Horizon” platform, integrating over 40 core spatiotemporal algorithms, at the opening ceremony. It also entered into cooperation agreements with Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, Kazakhstan Kazaerospace, and Malaysian Karuna Group to promote satellite application projects.
Over the past three decades, China’s space industry has seen rapid growth, leading to the emergence of numerous cities specializing in related industries. Beyond traditional hubs like Beijing, Shanghai, and Xi’an, regions are now making significant advancements in satellite technology, with cities like Meishan becoming new centers for the satellite industry.
In recent years, Meishan City has capitalized on commercial aerospace development, pioneering the satellite application industry in Sichuan Province and promoting the use of satellite remote sensing data in areas such as high-standard farmland, disaster prevention and mitigation, resource surveying, environmental protection, and smart cities. Currently, Meishan boasts the largest number of commercial remote sensing satellites in Southwest China and ranks fourth nationally.
Meishan released its satellite industry development plan (2024-2030) last year, outlining a strategic vision to establish a globally competitive satellite industry cluster by 2030, targeting an industrial scale exceeding 10 billion yuan (approximately 1.39 billion U.S. dollars).
To realize this ambitious goal, Meishan is actively pushing forward the development of key industrial projects. On December 30, 2024, the Western China Satellite Industrial Park, situated in Meishan Tianfu New Area, commenced full operations. During the conference, nine new companies signed agreements to join the park, and a new science and technology innovation platform was introduced. To date, the park has attracted 26 satellite-related businesses and five scientific research platforms. By 2028, Meishan’s satellite industry is projected to exceed 5 billion yuan.
Additionally, the Huantian Cloud Smart Computing Center, the largest data center dedicated to the commercial satellite sector in Southwest China, is nearing operation. It aims to address critical challenges in the sector, including insufficient computing power, limited storage capacity, and low application efficiency.
“This is expected to complete Meishan’s aerospace industry layout, positioning the city as one of the few locations in China with comprehensive capabilities in satellite research and development, monitoring and control, application, and data transmission,” stated Yang Zhenyu, deputy general manager of Huantian Wisdom Technology Co., Ltd., the owner of the new infrastructure.
