Global Panda Partners 2024 Scheduled for Chengdu in Late November

CHENGDU, China, Sept. 24, 2024 — The Global Panda Partners 2024 (GPP 2024), hosted by Xinhua News Agency Sichuan Branch, Xinhua News Agency News & Information Center and Chengdu Media Group, is set to take place in Chengdu, Sichuan, around the end of November. The “Panda Homeland” Culture • Creativity Contest, organized by the Chengdu Municipal People’s Government for this event, kicked off on September 22nd.

The giant panda, China’s national treasure, is cherished globally. It embodies the urgent need for collaborative efforts to strengthen global biodiversity protection, and symbolizes a harmonious relationship between humans and nature. China’s commitment to protecting giant pandas is akin to “erecting a giant umbrella” that simultaneously safeguards other species that share their habitat. Any individual, group or organization dedicated to ecological progress, a healthy environment, and sustainable development can be considered a “panda partner”.

With the theme of “Coexistence Between Human and Nature”, GPP 2024 aims to reinforce the “lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets” philosophy, and effectively showcase stories about the beauty of Sichuan, the beauty of China, and global practices of ecological progress. Embracing the values of “conservation, greenness, sharing”, the event includes an opening ceremony, a culture & creativity contest, and a series of ancillary events. “Panda partners” such as government agencies, professionals and individuals will gather at the conference, utilizing cross-border, cross-temporal, cross-spatial and cross-civilizational dialogues to foster cooperation among Panda Partners working towards shared goals.

The GPP acts as a platform for fostering conversations and exchanges that are conducive to reaching consensus for global ecological progress, due to its academic, open and international nature. Current plans for the opening ceremony include: publishing a think tank report on ecological progress compiled collaboratively by authoritative organizations and New China Research (NCR), the think tank of Xinhua News Agency; inviting experts and scholars from both China and abroad to deliver keynote speeches and engage in extensive discussions; announcing the “Panda Partner Cities” and “Panda Partner Brands” lists; and collaborating with participating guests to jointly declare the “Panda Conservation Declaration”; and joining forces with professional healthcare institutions, giant panda protection organizations and social welfare groups to launch giant panda-related public activities. The event also aims to organize other events such as a global panda partner Sichuan tour and dialogue, discussions on protection and international cooperation related to flagship species like the giant panda, and cultural tourism exchange between China and other countries.

As an integral component of this event, the “Panda Homeland” Culture • Creativity Contest hosted by the Chengdu Municipal People’s Government launched on September 22nd, calling on creative individuals worldwide to submit original works inspired by giant pandas and their related culture. The contest features “Best Creation” awards in five main categories such as “Best Sculpture”, alongside three special awards.
