Gansu Power Grid First in China to Complete Live 110kV Line Upgrades in High-Altitude Region

State Grid Gansu Electric Power Company recently completed the first non-outage integrated automation modification of a 110kV line in a high-altitude area in China. The upgrade, at the 110kV Luqu substation in Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, involved the 110kV 1111 Luqu-Maqu power line’s safety and monitoring devices. This achievement marks a significant milestone for both State Grid Corporation and the domestic high-altitude power grid sector.

The project utilized a newly developed “110kV Portable Integrated Non-Outage Modification Platform” and Rapid Internal Replacing Technology, a collaboration between State Grid Gansu Electric Power Company and Nari Group Corporation.

The modification, completed without interrupting power service, enhanced the reliability of safety equipment on the 110kV 1111 Luqu-Maqu power line, improving regional power grid stability and resolving the challenges of balancing maintenance with continuous service. This initiative addressed potential substation hazards, replaced outdated equipment, and ensured uninterrupted power supply to high-altitude, cold regions like Luqu and Maqu.
