CURRENC Plans 500MW AI Data Center in Malaysia

Project to Support AI Innovation for Global Financial Firms

SINGAPORE, March 18, 2025 — CURRENC Group Inc. (Nasdaq: CURR), a leading fintech company providing AI solutions to financial institutions, has announced plans to acquire 100 acres in Johor, Malaysia, to construct a large-scale Artificial Intelligence Data Center (AIDC).

The AIDC campus, with a planned capacity of 500MW, will be built in stages on the 100-acre site. The first phase, comprising 100MW, is scheduled to be completed and operational by the end of 2026. The campus will offer co-location and wholesale leasing options to hyperscalers, enterprise clients, and other data center users, accommodating various requirements and ensuring a diverse tenant base. Upon completion, the facility is projected to be one of the largest AIDCs in Southeast Asia and will be central to CURRENC’s strategy to accelerate the adoption of AI technology by financial institutions.

The company is in talks with potential anchor tenants. Construction of each phase will begin once long-term tenants have been secured for a significant portion of that phase’s planned capacity.

“This investment signifies a new phase for CURRENC, complementing our existing range of AI tools for financial institutions,” stated Alex Kong, Founder and Executive Chairman of CURRENC. “With open-source models like DeepSeek and Qwen driving down the costs of AI deployment and large language model training, AI is becoming crucial for maintaining competitiveness in the financial sector, thereby increasing global demand for AI technology and support. Our new AIDC will provide unparalleled computing power and the flexible, scalable infrastructure necessary for financial institutions to integrate AI across their operations and succeed in the digital age. With the support of our AIDC, CURRENC’s comprehensive AI solutions will continue to ease the adoption of AI for financial institutions, fostering growth across the industry and leading digital transformation in Southeast Asia and beyond.”

Johor, situated approximately 20 kilometers north of Singapore, is rapidly becoming a leading data center hub in the Asia-Pacific region. The area boasts excellent international data connectivity with direct fiber optic links to Singapore, a reliable power grid, and attractive tax incentives from the Malaysian government for both operators and employees. These favorable conditions make Malaysia an ideal location for data center operations, particularly to meet the increasing demand in the ASEAN region.
