China’s Manufacturing Sector Sees Impressive Growth, From DeepSeek AI to Feihe Formula

New York, April 07, 2025 — From the impact of the open-source LLM DeepSeek on the global AI community, to the record-breaking success of the animated film “Ne Zha: Demon Child’s Rampage in the Sea” at the global box office, to Feihe Infant Formula gaining the confidence of North American consumers through its “Chinese quality,” these examples illustrate China’s growing influence across various global industries.

Since 2025, the global market has seen a consistent flow of innovation from China. DeepSeek’s open-source approach has spurred significant change in global AI research and development, while “Ne Zha” became the highest-grossing animated film worldwide. In the infant formula industry, Feihe has led sales in China for six years and redefined perceptions of Chinese quality by achieving top global sales for four years.

On April 5, Feihe, a prominent brand in the infant formula sector, participated in the 28th Harvard China Forum in Boston. Chairman Leng Youbin stated in his opening speech that Feihe is expanding globally by utilizing its high quality and advanced technology, exporting its management models, technologies, and standards to contribute Chinese insights and solutions globally.

Feihe’s Canadian plant in Kingston is a key part of its “China Solution” initiative. The C$380 million investment and eight-year construction ended Canada’s lack of domestic infant formula production, providing consumers with safe, high-quality products while boosting local employment and the economy. Similar to Elon Musk’s impact on automobile manufacturing with the Shanghai Gigafactory, Feihe’s Canadian factory uses a “rooted globalization” approach, implementing Chinese standards, technology, and management practices to participate in setting international industry standards.

Feihe’s Canadian-produced infant formula is available in over 1,100 Walmart and Loblaws stores and has quickly gained the trust of North American consumers due to its safety and high quality.

This rise in technology, culture, and consumer goods manufacturing is a result of the synergy between China’s national strategies and market-driven innovation.

At the recent NPC & CPPCC sessions, the Chinese government emphasized “scientific and technological innovation” as central to new quality productivity, boosting China’s innovative capacity. According to the “Global Innovation Index Report 2024,” China has risen to 11th place, showing its rapid growth in innovation over the past decade.

In addition to government support, Chinese private enterprises are pursuing “enterprise endogenous innovation” through industry resilience, research, and global resource integration, creating a core competitive advantage.

Feihe, for example, began building its integrated industrial chain in 2006 and implemented digital and intelligent upgrades, achieving a fully automated, aseptic production process. This internal reform reflects the improvement in product quality. Feihe’s fresh milk quality surpasses international standards in key quality indicators, and it has maintained a 63-year safety record with zero production accidents.

Chinese enterprises are increasingly important in promoting global research collaboration. Chairman Leng Youbin emphasized that Chinese enterprises are committed to openness and mutually beneficial cooperation, integrating global scientific research resources and innovative capabilities. The decade-long partnership with Harvard is a crucial step in Feihe’s global R&D strategy. Feihe collaborates with over 20 universities and institutions across seven countries, evolving into a catalyst for a global scientific research platform. Feihe also promotes the application of scientific research achievements, launching innovative products such as Xingfeifan Zhuorui, China’s first customized brain nutrition product for infants, which has become the leading product in China’s omni-channel infant formula category, according to Nielsen IQ research data. Feihe has also expanded its product portfolio to include Aiben, a functional nutrition product for adults.

From DeepSeek’s accessible AI technologies to Feihe’s leadership in global dairy research collaborations, these initiatives are broadening the world’s understanding of “Chinese innovation.” Chinese brands like Feihe are utilizing world-leading technology and quality to meet diverse market needs, contributing to global health and well-being through Chinese ingenuity.
