President Donald Trump publicly urged his Attorney General to commence legal proceedings against his political opponents in a Truth Social post on Saturday.
“We cannot postpone this any longer,” Trump conveyed in a message addressed to “Pam.”
“[I]t’s damaging our standing and trustworthiness. They impeached me on two occasions and indicted me five times, all for naught. JUSTICE MUST BE SERVED, IMMEDIATELY!!!”
Trump particularly called for Bondi to prosecute California Senator Adam Schiff, a Democrat; former FBI Director James Comey; and New York Attorney General Letitia James. Each of these individuals had conducted either political or criminal investigations into Trump.
Within the same post, Trump expressed dissatisfaction with Erik Siebert, the ex-U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, whom Trump had removed from his position last week. This removal followed Siebert’s communication to senior Justice officials that insufficient evidence existed to press charges against James. Trump maintained that Siebert’s assessment was incorrect and asserted that a “great case” exists.
Trump subsequently announced the appointment of Lindsey Halligan, who previously served as his personal attorney and later as a White House aide, to replace Siebert.
“Lindsey is a resilient, intelligent, and devoted attorney, who has collaborated with me for an extended period, including our victorious struggle against the Weaponization of our Justice System by Crooked Joe Biden and the Radical Left Democrats,” Trump penned. “She personally observed this when she defended my rights during the Unconstitutional and UnAmerican raid on my residence, Mar-a-Lago, in Palm Beach, Florida.”
The Eastern District of Virginia had initiated an inquiry into James concerning purported mortgage fraud linked to a home she acquired in 2023. In her capacity as New York’s Attorney General, James secured a multi-million dollar verdict against the Trump Organization last year for civil fraud, an action for which Trump has previously promised retaliation.
After Siebert clarified the absence of a viable case against James, Trump publicly criticized him, informing reporters, “I want him out.” Siebert tendered his resignation shortly thereafter.
The three individuals mentioned in Trump’s post have all conducted investigations into him in varying capacities. Schiff oversaw Trump’s initial impeachment trial, while another figure, an Obama appointee whom Trump dismissed as director in 2017 and who has since become one of his most prominent public critics, spearheaded the inquiry into Trump’s potential links to Russian operatives.
Trump briefly addressed reporters on Saturday regarding the post, clarifying that its intent was not to criticize Bondi, but rather to press his Attorney General to proceed swiftly with prosecuting his political adversaries.
“If their innocence is established, that is acceptable. However, if they are found guilty, or warrant charges, then charges must be brought, and we must act immediately,” he commented.
