(SeaPRwire) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has issued an open letter to the American public, urging them to look past what he described as a “misinformation machine” amidst the ongoing conflict involving the U.S., Israel, and his nation.
He argued that depicting Iran as a menace contradicts both historical records and current evidence. According to Pezeshkian, this image is a fabrication driven by the political and economic interests of the powerful to justify military control, support the weapons industry, and dominate markets. He suggested that if a threat doesn’t exist, one is created.
The letter was shared on X on Wednesday afternoon, roughly a month after the U.S. and Israel initiated the military campaign against Iran. President Donald Trump is scheduled to address the nation regarding the conflict on Wednesday night.
Earlier that day, Trump alleged on Truth Social that Iran’s president had requested a ceasefire. However, a spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry dismissed the claim as “false and baseless,” as reported by state media and the AP.
While Pezeshkian’s letter did not address the ceasefire allegation, he emphasized that the Iranian people hold no ill will toward the citizens of the U.S., Europe, or neighboring countries.
He maintained that Iran has not pursued a path of colonialism, expansion, or aggression in its modern history. Despite facing invasions and international pressure, he stated that Iran has never started a war, though it has defended itself against attackers.
He pointed out the extensive U.S. military presence near Iran’s borders, claiming that recent American strikes from these locations highlight the danger of such a presence.
Pezeshkian argued that any nation in a similar position would bolster its defenses. He described Iran’s actions as a calculated effort for legitimate self-defense rather than an act of aggression.
He questioned if the conflict serves the interests of the American people and accused the U.S. of acting as a proxy for Israel. He further alleged that Israel uses the narrative of an Iranian threat to mask its actions regarding Palestinians.
Challenging the “America First” doctrine, he invited the public to ignore propaganda and consider the contributions of Iranian immigrants in Western academia and technology. He asked if these contributions align with the negative portrayals of Iran.
Explanations from the Trump administration and Israel regarding the war’s origins have been inconsistent. While both claim the strikes were preemptive or defensive, no evidence has been provided to show Iran was planning an attack.
Trump previously stated he chose to strike because he believed Iran was on the verge of attacking first, suggesting he may have even prompted Israel to act.
Public opinion polls indicate that the war remains largely unpopular with the American public, even as it receives support from many in the Republican party.
