The Chicago metal band is reimagining their songs with a raw, unplugged sound and a revamped lineup.
Chicago, Illinois Sep 15, 2025 – Chicago’s own Bloodrunner, a prominent figure in the Midwest metal scene since 2004, is excited to announce the release of their new live album, Unplugged Live at WZRD. This unique performance, recorded in the summer of 2025 at Northeastern University’s renowned radio station, WZRD, introduces fans to the band’s acoustic side and a completely new lineup.
Founded by Neal Rodriguez and friends in the early 2000s, Bloodrunner has navigated changes in personnel, record contracts, and a continuously evolving sonic landscape. From their first album, Total Annihilation, to their self-titled release in 2023, the band has consistently strived to break new ground. Now, with bassist Tito and drummer Jeff (on bongos), Bloodrunner offers a fresh take on their discography in an intimate, unplugged setting, highlighting the power of unfiltered emotion and strong songwriting, even without heavy distortion.
Unplugged Live at WZRD embodies the spirit of a band revitalized, embracing its origins while boldly venturing forward. Fans can expect to hear reimagined versions of their classic tracks, delivered with the same intensity, fervor, and sincerity that have defined Bloodrunner for over two decades.
“We wanted to reveal a different facet of Bloodrunner,” says founder Neal Rodriguez. “These songs have always contained genuine emotion, and playing them unplugged allows that to truly resonate. We’re thrilled to share this new chapter with our fans.”
Having worked with labels like Golden Core Records and Sliptrick Records, and performed countless live shows throughout Chicago and beyond, Bloodrunner has established itself as a lasting voice in underground metal. This latest release demonstrates their ability to grow, adapt, and continue producing meaningful music.
