Sunday evening, Hacks star Hannah Einbinder was honored with an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.
“Go Birds, f–k ICE, and free Palestine,” Einbinder declared in her acceptance speech. The live broadcast on CBS subsequently bleeped out her voice when she uttered “f–k ICE.”
In her defining role on Hacks, Einbinder portrays a young comedy writer whose task is to develop and update material for a veteran comedian, played by Jean Smart—who earlier that night received her fourth Emmy for her portrayal of Deborah Vance in the series—for contemporary audiences. Einbinder’s performance has earned her four Emmy nominations and three Golden Globe nominations.
Earlier in the evening, Einbinder confirmed that Hacks would conclude with its upcoming season during an interview on the Emmys red carpet with E!.
She remarked, “We’ll begin [filming] next week, and the knowledge that it’s the final season is quite bittersweet. Nevertheless, I believe it’s the right course of action, you know? It’s gratifying to pursue something for the appropriate duration. Not to overstay your welcome. To fully commit, perform, and experience joy and sorrow.”
