Trump Remains Unsure of VP Pick, May Announce at GOP Convention

Former President Donald Trump Holds Campaign Rally In Chesapeake, Virginia

Donald Trump has yet to finalize his choice for vice president but plans to reveal his decision in the coming week.

“It could even be during the convention that we’d do it. I’d love to do it during the convention,” Trump said in a Monday evening interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News, referring to the Republican National Convention, which begins July 15 in Milwaukee.

“I think it would be a very interesting build up and important for the convention. It will make it even more exciting,” he added.

Trump stated that his running mate would be “a person that can do a fantastic job as President” as well as “somebody that helps you get elected, and there’s nothing wrong with that.”

In response to a question from Hannity, who suggested these names, Trump confirmed that Senators JD Vance, Marco Rubio, Tim Scott, and North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum are under consideration.

The former President has repeatedly stretched out the vice presidential selection process, leading to heightened intrigue and speculation surrounding the decision. Last month, he informed reporters that he had decided on his choice for VP but hadn’t disclosed it to the individual.

Trump must make a decision by next week when delegates at the convention will formally nominate Trump and his yet-to-be-named running mate for the party’s presidential ticket.

Mike Pence, who served as Vice President during Trump’s first term, has declined to endorse his former boss. He has firmly rebuked Trump over his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, where rioters demanded Pence be hanged.
